Distributed Workflow Management System

Industry
Aerospace, aircraft

Customer

Our customer is the Tupolev Design Bureau, the oldest Russian aircraft design organization. Recently, the company expanded to incorporate AVIASTAR, an aircraft plant in Ulyanovsk, and the Kazan Aviation Manufacturing Corporation. The new company name is Tupolev PSC.

Project Overview

The project comprises three stages.

  1. Analysis of the information infrastructure and data exchange business processes of the Tuploev PSC divisions in Moscow, Zhukovsky, Ulyanovsk, and Kazan.
  2. Development of requirement specifications for the integrated information system of Tupolev PSC and for a pilot project to cover Moscow and Ulyanovsk divisions of Tupolev PSC.
  3. Implementation of the pilot project to create a prototype of a workflow management system for the Moscow and Ulyanovsk divisions.

Project Execution

IBA Group implements the project in close cooperation with the customer. The first stage was completed, resulting in a summary report on the modification and development of the customer's IT. The Tupolev PSC board of directors and chief designers approved the report that involved the following issues:

  • Unified information space
  • Corporate resource management systems
  • Information security and information resource management
  • Administrative workflow and management, project management, and engineering and design workflow.

The customer defined the creation of a workflow management system for its Moscow and Ulyanovsk divisions as a priority area. IBA Group devised specifications for the project and was assigned to develop a prototype of the system. The pilot project was launched.

Lotus Notes/Domino was selected as a base for a transport system, while Chancellor, the IBA proprietary product, as a basic electronic document interchange (EDI) system. In addition, IBA developers used PDM/PLM software on Windchille platform. IBA Group developed bridges and Java applets to meet the needs of specific customer workstations. Currently, the system is being deployed at customer sites in Moscow and Ulyanovsk.

Project Results

With assistance from IBA Group, the client was able to analyze its information resources and identify ways for their unification in a single information system. According to Igor Shevchuk, Tupolev PSC President and Chief Designer, IBA offered a solution that “allows for more efficient management over the distributed implementation of several aircraft projects and reduces time and cost of our projects.”

He underscored the high professionalism of IBA specialists, their dedication, and quick responsiveness to changing requirements, as well as efficient consulting assistance to Tupolev PSC employees.
